It has now been forty days and forty nights since I've had my last drink of anything containing alcohol, so maybe it's about time to hit the Publish button on this website that I've been working on for weeks. I began drinking regularly in the late 1990s and have realized it's been a problem for almost four years now. During that time, I've rarely gone a week without a drink, and I had never gotten over 13 consecutive days in recent years (even though I've tried really hard a few times). So it seemed like a really big deal to get to 14 days… and an even bigger one to pick up my 30-day chip at AA recently. One thing I've noticed as days have turned into weeks… and now over a month: it's finally not such a day-to-day thing anymore. Sometimes, an entire day will go by without even thinking about drinking. So if you're just starting out on your path to clarity, it may not be so far as you might think.
